Review on Champions Trophy so far.
From the downfall of certain teams to the rise of criticized individuals, this Champions Trophy had it all. The Champions Trophy was a rollercoaster till now from thrilling nail-biters to boring one sided dead rubber matches. It has truly been a tournament with everything that one wants in an established ICC tournament.
The downfall of Pakistan has to be discussed. From winning the last Champions Trophy in 2017 to being the first to be knocked out this time on their home ground. Before the Champions Trophy Pakistan won the series in Australia and in South Africa. Many would say they were favorites to go deep into the competition. One setback they faced was that Saim Ayub was ruled out and had to be replaced. It all seemed that only one person had to be changed in the squad that was flying high.
Well that was a wrong guess, for one person having to supposedly be changed they had to bring in Faheem Ashraf, Khushdil Shah and Fakhar Zaman. Now one would think that Fakhar Zaman is a sensible replacement. A left hander, a hard hitting batsmen. They for some reason took Abdullah Shafique out as well of the squad. Shafique and Saim had an amazing opening partnership. Since this happened now they made Babar into an opener. This shake up was unnesessarry.
Now although Khushdil Shah performed one would feel it would be better if a younger player were to play. Not only would it make Pakistans future brighter it would give them more explosiveness. Faheem Ashraf was an unnecessary change that did not benefit the team in any way. That is why one would think that the selection committee has to come to their senses and change.
